This is the story of a magnificent neighbor, who saved a baby boy from almost certain death. Back in 2006, a man became highly suspicious after seeing his pregnant neighbor leave home in the morning, only to return in the evening with blood-stained clothes.
Lucinda Ferreira Guimaraes from Curitiba, Brazil, was an expecting mother when she left her house one morning, but to her neighbor’s shock, she returned home in blood-stained clothes after 6 p.m., according to Wereblog.
Alarm bells went off in her watchful neighbor’s mind, who happened to witness the lady’s movements. He decided to search the area to see what was going on. He kept searching right up until it was too dark to see, so he made up his mind to continue the search the next day.
He finally found a baby’s head, with flies all around, sticking out of a muddy hole by a bush.
It turned out that Guimaraes had given birth in the woods, 300 yards (274m) away from the house, and then buried the baby alive.
The man called the police, as he thought the baby, who wasn’t moving nor crying, was dead. When the police came to pull the little boy out from the hole, the mud-covered baby started crying.
It was later learned that the baby had survived due to three factors: Firstly, the rain had washed off dirt from the baby’s head, otherwise, he would be completely buried and out of sight. The next factor was due to the umbilical cord and placenta still being attached, which prevented blood loss. The last reason was due to the placenta, the baby didn’t starve as he still had his mother’s nutrients in his body.
When the police arrested Guimaraes, she denied being the mother and did not admit to burying him. The local media reported that she was arrested and sent to prison, while the baby was given back to his biological father.
We hope for the best for the little baby, who ought to be 11 years old now. And, thank goodness for the neighbor with a conscience, who happened to be in the right place at the right time—twice!
